IC3600SIXJ1C1B Power Supply Selector Card: purpose and layout
The IC3600SIXJ1C1B is a power supply selector control card built for GE's Speedtronic Mark I / Mark II turbine control system, GE's earliest Speedtronic generation. Its job is to select and route power within the control architecture — choosing between supply sources and passing the selected power on to the downstream control circuitry. It belongs to the IC3600SIX group, a mixed family of Mark I-II cards that also includes sensor, extender and interface boards, so the “SIX” prefix alone does not tell you the function; the letter that follows does.
Physically the SIXJ1C1B is easy to recognize. It is a compact plug-in board with a row of edge-connector fingers numbered up to fifty-one along the bottom, a pair of large high-temperature capacitors, and a metal plate carrying a selector switch at each end — the two black knobs that set the power selection. Those switches are central both to how the card works and to how you should troubleshoot it.
Check the selector switches before you replace the board
Because this card selects a power source, the classic false alarm is a selection problem mistaken for a card failure. Confirm the simple things first:
-
Verify the switch positions. Make sure both selector knobs are set to the intended source. A card that appears dead downstream may simply be selecting a source that is not currently available.
-
Confirm the sources it selects between. The selector can only pass power that is present. Check that the supplies feeding the card are actually live and in tolerance before blaming the board.
-
Work the switch contacts. Mechanical selector switches on a decades-old card can oxidize. An intermittent or open switch contact imitates a failed card; carefully exercising or cleaning the switch can restore it.
-
Reseat and clean the edge connector. As on every IC3600 board, corroded fingers or a loose rack seat produce intermittent power routing that looks like a board fault.
Only once the switch positions, the source supplies, the switch contacts and the connector are verified should the SIXJ1C1B itself be treated as the failure.
Reading the IC3600SIXJ1C1B part number
IC3600 is the Mark I / Mark II Speedtronic card series and SIX is the group; the letter J identifies this specific card — the power supply selector — as opposed to the K, L and M cards in the same group. The trailing 1C1B is the revision or dash detail and should be matched with the base number. Because the SIX group packs several unrelated functions under one prefix, the letter after SIX is the part you must get right. Our GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder explains the structure.
Other IC3600SIX group cards
The SIX group is worth knowing as a set, since the cards are easy to confuse by prefix alone: the SIXK is a power sensor card, the SIXL a relay module extender, and the SIXM an interface card. If you are stocking spares for a Mark I-II panel it pays to identify each SIX card by its full number rather than by the group. Browse them in our GE Mark I-II IC3600 Cards collection, with the wider control range in GE Speedtronic Turbine Control Boards. These are Mark I-II cards specifically; they do not interchange with later Speedtronic hardware, and the generation predates the triple-redundant R/S/T voting architecture.
What to provide for an accurate quote
To match the correct selector card, please send:
- The full part number with suffix as printed on the board, for example IC3600SIXJ1C1B.
- A photo of the card label and, ideally, the switch/component side.
- Turbine model and Speedtronic generation (Mark I or Mark II).
- Quantity and how urgently you need it.
