The Role of the IS200BPPBH2BJD in a Mark VI I/O Pack
Every BPPB board, including this IS200BPPBH2BJD, does the same core job: it takes a +28 VDC nominal supply and regulates it down to the +5 VDC and ±15 VDC rails a Mark VI I/O pack's other circuits need, while also handling the data path between that pack's processor and the rest of the VME rack across the backplane. It's a daughterboard fastened to the host pack's motherboard with four standoffs in brass-plated corner holes, shaped along three edges to fit around neighboring components. On the board you'll find two LEDs along one edge, two connectors of different sizes, two phone jacks, an inductor coil, several capacitor types, ICs and transistors, and a memory chip mounted near the center, each part carrying its own reference designator. TMR configurations typically run three of these boards in parallel — one per R, S, and T channel — each executing the turbine application software for its own channel, and an onboard temperature sensor supports condition monitoring across the board's rated range.
What this board does not do is interface with your plant wiring. Transmitters, RTDs, and other field devices connect to the pack's own front end and its terminal board — the BPPB only ever sees regulated power and backplane data traffic.
A Pack Fault Isn't Automatically a BPPB Fault
Because this board sits a step removed from the field wiring, it's worth ruling out a few other things before you order a replacement:
- Check whether multiple I/O packs across the same rack section are alarming at once — that pattern usually means a shared +28 VDC power problem, not several individually failed processor boards.
- Verify the field device and wiring feeding the pack. A failed transmitter or a loose terminal upstream can produce a fault that looks identical to a pack failure, with the BPPB completely uninvolved.
- Check that the pack is properly seated in the backplane and that its cable to the terminal board is intact — loose connections here are a common and easily missed cause.
- Confirm which board inside the pack actually failed. The BPPB is one of at least two boards in its housing, so don't assume it's guilty by default.
Once power, field wiring, and cabling are confirmed clean, replacing the BPPB is a reasonable next step.
Decoding IS200BPPBH2BJD
The string is built from IS200 (platform), BPPB (function), and H2BJD (group and revision) — H2B for the group/generation, JD for this specific hardware revision. This collection includes several other H2B BPPB boards under different trailing letters; those differences are real, so match the complete part number rather than assuming interchangeability. Our GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder covers how to parse a full IS200 string.
Related Boards
BPPB processor boards have been used across multiple Mark VI I/O pack types, which is why the descriptive name attached to this part number varies depending on the host pack. Later Mark VIe systems moved new I/O packs to a BPPC-based processor architecture — treat that as a distinct generation rather than a guaranteed substitute. If your fleet also includes older Mark IV/Mark V equipment, see our Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200 guide and GE Mark V DS200 Boards Explained article.
