IS200BPPBH2BDA: The Short Version
If a technician told you the pack is faulted and pointed at an IS200BPPBH2BDA as the fix, it helps to know exactly what this board does before you order it. The BPPB is a power-distribution and processor-interface daughterboard that mounts inside a Mark VI I/O pack — not a card that plugs straight into the VME rack on its own. It converts a +28 VDC nominal input down to the +5 VDC and ±15 VDC rails the pack's other circuits need, and it handles the data exchange between the pack's processor and the rest of the rack over the backplane. Three of these boards typically run in parallel across the R, S, and T channels in a TMR system, each executing the turbine application software for its channel.
The board itself is small, held to its host motherboard by four standoffs through brass-plated corner holes, with three edges shaped to clear other components. Expect to find two LEDs along one edge, two connectors of different sizes, two phone jacks, an inductor coil, a mix of capacitor types, several ICs and transistors, and a center-mounted memory chip, each part labeled with its own reference designator. A temperature sensor on board supports condition monitoring across a wide operating range and can flag an alarm if readings move outside expected limits. What the BPPB does not do is interface directly with your field instruments — that happens through the pack's own analog circuitry and the terminal board wired to it.
What to Check Before You Replace the Board
An I/O pack alarm and a bad BPPB are not automatically the same thing. Before ordering a replacement:
- See whether the fault is showing up on more than one pack in the same rack section — that pattern usually traces back to the shared +28 VDC supply, not multiple failed processor boards.
- Check the actual field device and wiring connected to the pack. The BPPB has no visibility into that signal directly, so a bad transmitter or loose terminal can look identical to a pack fault.
- Reseat the pack in the backplane and check the cable running to its terminal board — a loose connection here is a common and easily missed cause of intermittent faults.
- Remember the BPPB shares its housing with other circuitry inside the pack; confirm which part specifically failed before assuming it's this board.
With shared power, field wiring, and cabling ruled out, ordering the BPPB replacement is the reasonable next step.
Reading the IS200BPPBH2BDA Suffix
IS200 marks the platform, BPPB marks the function, and H2BDA marks the group and revision — H2B for the group/generation, DA for this specific revision. Several other H2B-series BPPB boards are stocked in this collection with different trailing letters, and those letters reflect genuine revision differences — always match the complete part number. Our GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder covers how the full IS200 string is structured.
Related Boards
The BPPB has been used across several different Mark VI I/O pack types, so you'll see it described under different names depending on what pack it's installed in. Later Mark VIe systems introduced a BPPC-based processor design for new I/O packs — treat that as a separate generation rather than an automatic substitute. If you also maintain older Mark IV/Mark V equipment, our Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200 guide and GE Mark V DS200 Boards Explained article cover that earlier numbering.
