What this board is
The DS3800HACB is a Series Six receiver board in the GE Speedtronic Mark IV turbine control system. The DS3800 prefix is what identifies the generation: Mark IV, the first Speedtronic generation to bring microprocessor control to gas turbine management.
The "Series Six" in the name is the tell. This board sits on the communications side of the panel, interfacing the Mark IV with GE's Series Six programmable controller equipment. If your fault is a loss of communication between the turbine control and the Series Six side rather than a bad analog reading, this board is in the path.
Diagnose the link, not just the board
Communications boards get replaced unnecessarily more often than almost any other card, because a broken link presents identically whether the fault is at the sending end, the receiving end, or the cable in between. Before you order:
- Confirm the fault is at the receiving end and not the transmitting end.
- Check the cabling and terminations. On panels of this age, connector corrosion is a genuine and cheap-to-fix cause.
- Confirm the board is actually powered.
The Mark IV supply picture
Mark IV has been out of production for many years. Every DS3800 board available is surplus, refurbished or new-old-stock. Lead times are not long so much as unpredictable — a board can be on a shelf today and unfindable for months. If your Mark IV still runs the plant, the honest advice is to hold critical spares rather than source them during an outage.
Reading the number
DS3800HACB1A1B is the family prefix (DS3800), the functional acronym (HACB), and the trailing group and revision digits (1A1B). Suppliers list some Mark IV boards under the short functional form and some under the full number, so search both. Read the number off the board, not the cabinet label.
