What to include in your RFQ: the server model and generation, the controller part number if you have it, quantity, how many drives you need to attach, whether you want hardware RAID or IT-mode (HBA passthrough) — this is the key decision, since ZFS and Ceph want raw disks, not a RAID abstraction — plus cache size, BBU/supercap requirement, and the internal cable type (SFF-8643, SFF-8654, SlimSAS) your backplane uses. Cables are frequently forgotten and will stall an install.

Hardware RAID or IT-mode HBA?
Use hardware RAID for traditional volumes with battery-backed write cache. Use an IT-mode HBA if you're running ZFS, TrueNAS, Ceph or Storage Spaces — those need direct disk access. Tell us the OS/filesystem and we'll pick correctly.
Do controllers ship with the cache battery?
Cache modules and BBU/supercaps are separate line items on most platforms. Tell us if you need write-back cache and we'll include them.
Are internal SAS cables included?
Not by default. Send your backplane connector type and we'll add the right cables to the quote.
