Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an HPE -B21 and a -001 part number?
The -B21 number is the option kit sold as a new upgrade; the -001 (or similar) number is the spare part that HPE uses for the same drive in service. Both identify the same drive, and we quote against either.
Which ProLiant generations use SmartCarrier drives?
SmartCarrier (SC) drives are used in ProLiant Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers; Gen7 and earlier use the older carrier and Gen11 adds new carrier types, so the server generation decides which part number you need.
Can I use ProLiant drives in an HPE MSA array?
No — MSA and 3PAR arrays use their own drive part numbers and carriers. Tell us the array model and we quote the matching drive.
